An exciting evening of encapsulating drumming, celebrating the energy and creativity of the mischievous Japanese yokai – the yamabiko.

According to Japanese folklore, the yamabiko is a spirit which inhabits mountains, echoing the calls made across the valley. When you shout across the mountain and the echo takes on a life of its own, it is the yamabiko mimicking your call.

Using both traditional and modern rhythms, Yamabiko’s eponymous stage show combines an intensity of energy and endurance, with a sensitivity of colour and musicality, in this full length theatre show premiered in 2025.
